The Verkhovna Rada of the seventh convocation should be adequate to the moods, feelings and needs people have, as well as responsible for its activity. This was stressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn in the interview to Rada TV Channel on Thursday.

The Chairman of the Parliament believes that if it would be possible to organize Parliaments’ work at such level then, in five year’s time, the trustworthiness of people to the deputies would reach “the minimum acceptable level”.

Answering questions, V.Lytvyn expressed his concerns regarding the fact that “country is covered with demagogy and populism”. “It is a sign of trouble, when demagogy starts being perceived positively and is supported by the society,” he noted. Today, the Chairman of the Parliament said, “no one speaks of the fact that in order to live, you need to work”. In this context, he expressed an idea that “people will become deeply disillusioned with certain political forces, having received extremely high ratings during elections. Since, it is one thing to talk a lot, and absolutely different one – to organize work”.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is convinced that we need to mobilize all forces to arrange the country. The authorities should “demonstrate clear and understandable action plan that would be perceived by every person as his/her personal views”. “We need a serious conversation, so that people could feel that we all are responsible for the tomorrow, for the future of our descendants and, eventually, for the whole Ukraine,” he said.

Speaking on organizing the work of the Parliament of new convocation, V.Lytvyn stressed that willingness and ability to listen to each other, and a dialogue are of utmost importance, since “people should speak from the mouth of deputies”. He added that there is a need not in “attempts to make like someone for certain stands”, but in “healthy competitiveness”. “The country should speak in the Verkhovna Rada and each voice should be heard,” V.Lytvyn noted.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed the necessity to develop local self-government, since, according to him, Ukraine can be perceived as truly democratic state only if “the needs of everyone are supported and conditions are established, so that each person could fulfill his/her potential”.
